And to my great delight, my little Redstart buddies paid a visit. Typically, the Redstarts are a difficult view, because they dart about incessantly, usually confining themselves to the deep understory.Catching more than a glimpse of them in the field glasses is a challenge. This time, however, a male came out of the trees and across my lawn to a small tree next to my house, where he remained for several minutes. I was gardening at the time (field glasses at my side), and used the occasion to take a rest, lying down on the grass with glasses to my eyes, watching him intently for quite some time. The orange and black contrast is quite impressive, and his call is very bold and sassy.
